Guinness Should Be Calling Any Moment

We’re about to hit a warm streak this week so despite my lackadaisical attitude towards most (All!) forms of exercise I’m thinking about running again. I’ve actually lost count of how many times I’ve started the Couch to 5k training program. Even though I’ve done two 5ks so far, at a little more than an hour each, I’ve haven’t stuck with it. Last Fall I actually took a multi-week running class with the goal of running a 5k sponsored by a local running store. An unfortunate deer-meets-car accident cut that short though. I did not do well the following months with regards to exercise and diet. The result has been… not good.

I’ve ballooned up to what is probably the maximum density that my skeletal structure can handle. I’m ashamed to say it but I hit 390 lbs. And I refuse to go any further. This has really exasperated my back and hip issues to the point that I physically can’t walk some days. It’s embarrassing and depressing. Most days I want to crawl into a hole and stay there covered in Doritos dust and shame.

But I’m not going to do that. I’m trying to channel all those emotions into some kind of motivation. The plan is to take advantage of the warm spell and (re-)start the Couch to 5k tonight. Followed by lots and lots of stretching. Perhaps even a salad for dinner. If I can make it through this week by running every other day I think I might have a chance. Baby steps. One day at a time.

Who’s got two thumbs and is starting the Couch to 5k for the umteenth time? This guy! I’ve got to look good for my Guinness Book of World Records photoshoot, y’know.
